Hyaluronic acid (i.e. sodium hyaluronate)is a powerful humectant that keeps the skin plump and hydrated. It is a naturally-occurring polysaccharide (i.e. carbohydrate) that can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Even though hyaluronic acid is a relatively large molecule, this moisture-enriching provides long-lasting moisture because it penetrates the dead cell layer (i.e. stratum corneum) and permeates the skin. Increased hydration leads to improved elasticity and can also reverse free radical damage. Hyalronic acid can promote microcirculation and nutrient absorption all of which contribute to smoother skin and a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles.
Ananas Sativus Fruit Extract (Pineapple) contains a higher content of ceamides over any other fruit. Ceramides are a major component of intercellular lipids which fill gaps or act as “glue” that hold the skin cells together. They play an important role in suppressing transepidermal water loss and improving skin barrier function which interrupts the invasion of foreign substances into the skin. They have been shown to increase skin brightness, hyaluronic acid and aquaporin-3 (AQP3). Pineapple extract also improves skin cell turnover due to its alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) content and protect the skinwith antioxidant capabilities via a rich Vitamin C content.
Butyrisoermum Parkii extract (Shea butter) has been shown to act as a natural moisturizing butter with antioxidant properties that benefits skin conditions such as cutaneous dryness, dermatitis, eczema and superficial burns. It is rich in unsaponifiable components, essential fatty acids, phytosterols, vitamin E and allantoin. It is also an emollient and humectant that maintains formulation integrity and helps in delivery of signal ingredients to the skin.
Oryza Sativa Bran Extract (Rice bran) helps to seal in moisture to ensure long-lasting hydration. Rice bran is an occlusive extract with antioxidants and its polyphenol and procyanidin components help to soften, sooth, and moisturize the skin.
Tetrahydroxypropyl Ethylenediamine (THPE) is a chelating agent that has been shown to smooth skin surface while also improving the radiance and firmness of the skin.
Acetyl Dipeptide-1 Cetyl Ester (Lifting Peptide) is a lipopeptide with the sequence N-Acetyl-Tyrosyl-Arginyl-Hexadecyl Ester based on the peptide that occurs naturally in the body. It has been shown to stimulate tropoelastin both directly and indirectly by stimulating architecture components (e.g. fibrillan-1, fibulin-5, decorin, transglutaminases and lysyl oxidase), thus promoting a functional elastic fiber structure. Studies demonstrate an anti-gravity effect, by reducing sagging and helping to firm skin. (Patent reference: http://www.google.com/patents/US20120076842)
Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate or DDBD (Neurotransmitter-Blocking Peptide)is a synthetic tripeptide consisting of alanine, proline and benzyl butyrate that mimics the effect of Waglerin 1–a peptide found in the venom of the Temple Viper (i.e. Tropidolaemus wagleri)–by blocking the body’s uptake of sodium (Na+). Blocking sodium intake causes the facial muscles to relax, thus reducing fine lines and wrinkles. As a muscle relaxation ingredient, it can complement the activity of peptides designed to boost the extracellular matrix.
Hexapeptide-10 (Anti-Gravity Peptide) is a synthetic hexapeptide consisting of alanine, phenylalanine, proline, and valine residues. It has been shown to have dual action by activating both the keratinocytes and fibroblasts for increased synthesis of laminin-5, a6-integrin and hemidesmosomes, which strengthen the dermal-epidermal junction (i.e. DEJ). It helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Myristoyl Tripeptide-31 (Retinoic-like Peptide) is a synthetic peptide of myristic acid reacted with glycine, leucine, and phenylalanine. It has been shown to reduce wrinkles, increase luminosity, and have anti-inflammatory properties similar to the beneficial effects seen with retinoic acid treatments.
Buddleja Davidii Extract (Butterfly Bush) is a shrub of the Scrophulariaceae family native of Eastern Asia and widely grown in Europe (e.g. sometimes referred to as the Swiss Alpine butterfly bush) and often used as ornamental plant with scented flowers of white, pink, lilac or dark purple. The extract or meristem cell culture (i.e. undifferentiated cells from the plant grown under controlled conditions) are rich in phenylethanoids, flavanoids, iridoids, and other antioxidant and nutrient activities. Buddleja is known for its wound healing, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and has been shown to have a strong DNA protective and repair mechanism.
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (White tea) is an extract from the immature leaves of the green tea leaf that contain catechins, a natural flavonoid antioxidant, with substantial evidence of rescuing skin from sun damage. White tea extract also has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties as well as skin lightening properties by inhibition of tyrosinase—a copper-containing enzyme that catalyzes the production of melanin and other pigments from tyrosine by oxidation. Strong antioxidants are important in the prevention of free radicals that cause cellular damage. Suppressing free radicals also allow signaling peptides to generate anti-aging response without interference.
Diacetyl Boldine Extract (Chilean Boldo Tree) is a skin brightening agent derived from the bark of a Chilean tree shown to work as a potent antioxidant and to be effective at decreasing melanin and tyrosinase activity.
